Task:

1- Make a list of the different phrases V.F uses to describe his ‘creation’

“For this I had deprived myself of rest and health. I had desired it with an ardour that far exceeded moderation; but now that I had nished, the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless horror and disgust lled my heart.”

“the whole train of my progress toward the creation; the appearance of the works of my own hands at my bedside;”

“His speech calmed me. I was rmly convinced in my own mind that Justine, and indeed every human being, was guiltless of this murder.”

2- Is there a common theme to these phrases? Explain it and you reaction to the language used to describe ‘the monster’

With each of these phrases he talks about his ‘creation’ and he never refers it a name or a being he treats it as a monster. You can tell that even with all this time spent on his creation once it came to life he felt ‘horror and disgust’. The way he talks about it afterwards he almost seems guilty as if he has done something horrible. He then starts to say that the ‘monster’ must have killed his brother and that no ‘human being’ could have done it. I think that doesn’t make sense because Frankensteins creation is completely made up of human parts so how could you really say it is a monster. He also doesn’t know how it works.
